    Domains – FAQs

    What is a domain?

A domain or domain name is the address of your private or business homepage online. Domain names have a hierarchical structure: The outermost element to the right (e.g. .ch), known as a top level domain, is at the top of this hierarchy. All Swiss domains take the ending .ch, German domains the ending .com, etc.

Can I transfer my website, including email service, to a different hosting provider?

Yes, of course. You can manage the name server entries yourself in the Control Panel at any time. When transferring domain names, we automatically adopt the previous name server settings from your current domain provider, unless you wish to change them. This way, a web hosting provider other than Hostpoint can host your website and email account. In this case, we function purely as your domain registrar, and you only pay us the domain costs.

How do I transfer my domain from another provider to Hostpoint?

Click here, to transfer your domain name simply, conveniently and free of charge from your current domain provider to Hostpoint. To do this, you will need your current transfer code from your current domain registrar.

How do I manage my domains with Domain.ch?

After registering or transferring your domain, you can independently manage your domain(s) at any time using a single login – even if you have multiple domains. This way, you do not have to enter new login details for each domain, making it easy for you to maintain complete control over all of your domains.

What services do I receive for the annual CHF 15 domain fee?

You receive free domain support from Switzerland, 365 days per year. The price also includes other useful domain features you can activate directly from the Domain Control Panel. You can configure every domain with an individual forwarder. Zone records can be modified with the convenient DNS editor or operated with specific name servers. As a domain owner, you always have complete control of your domain without being tied to any specific hosting provider. Web and email services can be operated by any provider in the world, independently of Hostpoint.

How long does it take until my domain is activated?

The domain name activation process normally takes from 12 to a maximum of 24 hours.
